What is a County Held Tax Lien?
El Paso County Held Tax Liens
- When property taxes are not paid, the county places a tax lien on the property.
- If that lien is not sold at a tax lien sale, or if the county chooses not to sell it, the lien is held by the county.
- The property owner still owes the back taxes, interest, and fees to the county.
- The lien remains on the property until it is paid (redeemed) or otherwise resolved.
Can County Held Tax Liens be Purchased?
- You can request to purchase one of these liens by submitting a written request to the El Paso County Treasurer’s Office.
- Before you submit a request, we strongly encourage you to research the property and, if possible, visit the site. You are responsible for deciding whether the tax lien is a good investment for you.
- Parcel numbers beginning with 99000 or 99001 are for severed mineral interests.
- Public record property information and parcel maps are available on the Assessor’s Real Property Search Page.
